The City of Olympia is Washington State’s Capital City. This should be one of the most beautiful capital cities in America. On the water, Capital lake nearby, Mt. Rainier in the distance – like most of Washington State, all the natural wonders and benefits of living in the Pacific Northwest. However, it seems that the political class has chosen to destroy what they have rather than solve the challenges they face. The local political will to fix anything is weak, group think dominates, and the political willingness to stop the decay seems to have vanished…

OUR CONSTITUTION BEGINS WITH THE PHRASE “WE THE PEOPLE.” IT WAS THE FOUNDERS’ INTENT THAT GOVERNMENT BE CREATED BY THE PEOPLE, TO SERVE THE PEOPLE. IT WASN’T THEIR INTENTION FOR THE PEOPLE TO SERVE THE GOVERNMENT. IT WAS ALWAYS INTENDED THAT GOVERNMENT WHICH FAILED TO SERVE THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE “ALTERED OR ABOLISHED.” UNTIL WE RETURN TO THE FOUNDER’S INTENT, WE REMAIN WE THE GOVERNED…

Hello Glen.
Do you have any advice on what should be done to get rid of the drug camp problems? What should be done with these “drug addicts”? Jail them? Put them on buses and send them to someone else’s town? Any advice on this?
Thanks. Brenda
For the ones who came here from other states (which appears to be about 50% of them, from what people who work with the homeless tell me), they should be able to go home where they are more likely to have family who might be able to help.
However, we have a variety of state options we should pursue. One is to focus on detox/drug rehabilitation. We can convert a variety of local facilities and repurpose them for this application. McNeil Island and Maple Lane facilities are essentially unused facilities that can be used for the detox phase. Then, we can convert Evergreen State College and the Western State University campuses into homeless/rehab facilities. They already have dorms, wastewater treatment facilities, kitchens, and classrooms and the ability to handle many thousands of people for extended periods of time as they get back on their feet and become productive members of society.

[…] Olympia’s Decay […]
Excellent video, Glen. Thank you for documenting this.
You’re absolutely correct that select insiders are making $$ from this problem.
EVERY community should take care of THEIR OWN homeless. But that’s not what’s going on in Olympia, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. Profiteering insiders have turned homeless into an INDUSTRY. They are imprting homeless people from other states.
When I was on the council, I was furious when my fellow councilmembers voted against LEGITIMATE providers (who weren’t in on the fix) and voted for throwing $$$ to the Joe Hyers.
I was elected in 2009 during a “change” election. Olympia is due for another change election.
Keep up the good work.
Why is it that the conservative people in Washington are unable to get enough votes to break the liberal hold? Might it be because of the spiritual decline?

Perhaps, but people do tend to wake up the worse things get, and this Governor seems intent to crater the state as quickly as he can…
Kind of like starting to man the lifeboats when the ship is just about to go under. Sometimes it is too late to do anything meaningful in the political arena. That is when ‘Plan B’ kicks in, as evidenced by the Declaration of Independence. ‘Be Prepared’ – Boy Scouts motto.
It is always a good idea to be prepared.
Because corporations owned by the Chinese Communist Party count our votes.
I have lived in western Washington for most of my life. However, I have never been to Olympia. Thanks to Glen I can now cross that visit off of my bucket list and feel good about it.
Oh you are really missing the experience. Particularly during the legislative session. Although this year, it looks like Inslee is planning to work with the Democrats and ban all the people from seeing or commenting on the public hearings – since everything will be by Zoom – and I’m sure the “technical glitches” will all happen at key moments to shut down certain undesireable comments….
Unjust/unconstitutional/unpopular laws are only as applicable as citizens make them. Prohibition being a prime example. We are in the driver’s seat, not them.
